Hillsboro Civic Center
Skanska USA
The
plaza area design required exacting construction methods,
in part because of its varying finishes - from broom finish,
exposed aggregate, colored aggregate and a "quartzite
stream" that runs between fountains at opposite ends
of the plaza. Skanska also significantly reduced the amount
of wood used as a substrate in the woodwork walls by using
wheat board, a non-wood material.
The general contractor oversaw the recycling efforts of
the project, another reason it earned a gold rating. It recycled
92 percent of all construction waste.
