The AIA Jury of Fellows selected Garrett Maupin, FAIA, kpb architects, Everett as a new fellow. This year the honor was awarded to 112 members who have made contributions of national significance to the profession. Out of a membership of more than 86,000, there are fewer than 2,600 AIA members distinguished with the honor of fellowship. Maupin served on the AIA Alaska Board for a total of nine years, serving twice as president. He started the Alaska Architect newsletter in 1994 and the AIA AK website in 1997, and was editor for 13 years and webmaster for 10 years. Maupin has worked on a variety of notable Alaskan projects including medical, judicial, airport, civic and educational projects in Anchorage and throughout Alaska since 1984.

Portland architecture firm Yost Grube Hall Architecture (YGH), has added two new members to its ownership group. Project architect/designer Brent Young, AIA joined the firm in 2005. He is currently working on the Student Recreation and Aquatics Center addition at Boise State University. He has served as an adjunct professor at Portland State University, teaching design, drawing, and structures. His recent YGH projects include the Academic and Student Recreation Center for Portland State University and the US Embassy in Quito, Ecuador. Project architect John Heinen, AIA, LEED AP also joined the firm in 2005, specializing in medical and allied health and science facilities for higher education clients. His recent YGH projects include the Science and Technology Center at Olympic College, the Virology and Immunology Laboratory at the University of California, Davis, and the Oregon National Primate Research Center at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). Heinen is currently working on Building B at Pacific University’s Health Professions Campus, and lab renovations for OHSU.

Sally Fisher has joined BergerABAM as project manager/environmental scientist. Fisher’s experience includes environmental planning and permitting for in-water and transportation projects; environmental site assessment, investigation, and remediation; design and contract document preparation for dredging and remediation projects; and construction support. With 27 years of experience, Fisher has worked on numerous projects for state and federal agencies and local ports, including extensive work at the Port of Tacoma. Since 1995 she has worked on the development of the Blair Waterway, involved in the dredging for the container terminals. Other projects include the U.S. Coast Guard’s Piers 36 and 37 rebuild, the Port of Tacoma’s Lincoln Avenue grade separation, and the Port of Portland’s Terminal 6 dredging.

At its May 18th meeting, Triad Associates’ board of directors elected Steve Buxton to vice president. Participating on the eight member leadership team, Buxton will focus on high-level management and operations efficiencies while continuing to serve Triad in his current role as Information Technology Manager. A graduate of Western Washington University, Buxton’s varied background includes high school science teacher and IT Manager for a range of companies including an electrical contractor, Starbucks, and Leisure. Care Retirement Communities. He also served in the US Coast Guard for four years.

Lease Crutcher Lewis has announced one promotion and one new hire, both in Seattle. Jamie Madden, who has been with Lewis since 2005, has been promoted to People Services Coordinator. She coordinates employee benefits, recruitment, employee relations, and compliance. Madden holds a Bachelor’s degree from Gonzaga University. Christine Greene has joined Lewis as Accounting Assistant in Accounts Payable. Greene attended Western Washington University and has over 12 years Accounts Payable experience.

NAC|Architecture has announced a number of advancements within the company:

Darrell Turner, AIA, LEED AP, has been advanced to Associate Principal. Turner, who holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Washington State University (1982), has 27 years of architectural experience and is a member of The Center for Health Design. He is currently, working on designs for Highline Medical Center’s Birch Wing addition in Burien, Wash.; the master plan for Ketchikan General Hospital in Ketchikan, Alaska; and a number of projects for Franciscan Health System in Tacoma, Wash.

John Eckert, AIA, Stan Hargus, AIA, LEED AP, and Steve Wescott, AIA, LEED AP were advanced to Senior Associate. Eckert graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in Architecture in 1998. He joined the NAC|Architetcure in 1995 and is a member of their healthcare team. He’s working on designs for additions to ALK-Abelló’s Pharmaceutical Facility in Post Falls, Idaho; a comprehensive addition and remodel of Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth, Wash.; and renovation/upgrades to the ICU and CCU at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Hargus, who holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Houston (1976) has over 30 years of experience and is actively engaged in the firm’s continuing education activities. He is currently the project manager for the modernization and replacement of Snohomish High School in Snohomish, Wash., a multi-phased GC/CM project on an occupied campus. Wescott holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Idaho (1982) and attended the International Architecture & Design Study Program at the University of Copenhagen (1985). He joined NAC|Architecture in 1996 and is a graduate of the Sustainable Building Advisor Program, advocating for sustainable construction practices and systems. He is working on designs for Echo Glen Children’s Center, a juvenile rehabilitation facility located in Snoqualmie, Wash., and Highline Medical Center’s Birch Wing addition.

Vaughn Bray, AIA, was advanced to Associate. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Idaho (1978) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin - Stout (1972), and has 31 years of experience in architecture and design. He also attended the International Architecture & Design Study Program at the University of Copenhagen. Bray’s portfolio includes Highline Medical Center’s Birch Wing addition and the newly completed Group Health Bellevue Medical Center.
