Frasca honored Robert (Bob) Frasca,
FAIA, has been selected by the Architecture Foundation of
Oregon (AFO) as its 2004 Honored Citizen.
Frasca joins a distinguished group of past AFO Honored Citizen
recipients including Senator Mark O. Hatfield, AIA Gold Medallist,
Pietro Belluschi, FAIA, and Oregon Health and Science University
President, Dr. Peter Kohler. He is being honored by the foundation
for transforming the face of Oregon's built environment, exporting
a Northwest aesthetic nationally and internationally, and
advancing the profession of architecture.
Frasca has been partner-in-charge of design for Zimmer Gunsul
Frasca Partnership (ZGF) since 1966 and has produced a diverse
portfolio of award winning projects. In the Northwest his
projects include: the Oregon Convention Center, Portland International
Airport, Doernbecher Children's Hospital and the Vollum Institute
among others at Oregon Health and Science University, Fred
Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Bellevue Regional Library.
Nationally, he has designed buildings at the National Institutes
of Health, Cornell University, John Hopkins and University
of California. His international projects include U.S. Consulates
and Embassies in Istanbul, Turkey; Sofia, Bulgaria and Capetown,
South Africa. Based on his body of work, ZGF was awarded the
1991 Architecture Firm Award by the American Institute of
Architects.
Committed to educating future generations of designers, Frasca
has been a visiting professor and critic-in-design at universities
in Oregon, Washington, California, Michigan and Utah and has
lectured at academic institutions, AIA chapters, and design
and civic organizations. He was a long-standing member of
the University of Washington Architectural Commission of the
Board of Regents, and served on design review boards for the
University of California San Diego and Davis campuses.
Core Design, Inc. announced the addition of Jim
Morin, P.E. as project engineer. Morin is a 1984 graduate
of the University of Washington in Seattle, and has been licensed
by Washington State as a professional engineer since 1994.
Public projects include the Mercer Island portion of Interstate
90 for WSDOT and facility retrofit for Sub Base Bangor for
the U.S. Navy. Private projects include the initial four phases
of the City of Mill Creek, Issaquah Highlands and Ashley Park
in Fife.
Group Mackenzie, Portland, a regional architecture, engineering
and planning firm, recently hired Todd
R. Johnson and Catie A. Fernandez
to the planning department. Johnson is a planner/project manager
with nearly a decade of experience. His skills include coordinating
projects that integrate transportation, utility and site infrastructure,
environmental challenges, and land use regulations.
Fernandez has joined the planning department as a planner/project
manager. She formerly worked as an Associate Planner with
the City of Gresham for eight years. Fernandez is currently
working on the master plan for a 600-acre industrial park
in Tracy, California; development planning for large industrial
parks in Wilsonville, Fairview, Portland and Gresham; and
open space acquisitions for the Trust for Public Land. She
also oversees the firm's permit services.
Express Construction, Seattle, hired Jerry
Surdyk as senior project manager. Surdyk will focus
his extensive expertise on new commercial projects, and on
providing preconstruction and value engineering services for
clients. Prior to joining the company, he was project executive
at Howard S. Wright Construction in Seattle, and spent 15
years at McCarthy Construction in Bellevue in a variety of
managing and directorial positions.
DLR Group announces the following promotions: Lawrence
P. Ahern has been promoted to principal. Ahem has over
29 years of experience in architecture, with expertise in
higher education facility planning and design. Additionally,
Ahem has been appointed a member of DLR Group's national higher
education forum. Daniel A. Munn,
PE has been promoted to principal. He is a structural engineer
with over 12 years of experience on various building types,
including justice, retail and education facilities. Additionally,
he has been appointed a member of DLR Group's national quality
assurance forum. Scott M. Rose
has been promoted to principal. With a background in architecture,
Rose has over 18 years of experience in project and construction
management, primarily for public projects. Todd
P. Ferking has been promoted to senior associate. Ferking
has been working on architecture and project management on
various projects, with particular focus in retail design.
