The Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development
of Portland, Ore., has appointed Todd
Chase to join the state's Economic Development Planning
Advisory Committee. Chase, a senior planner with Portland's
Otak Inc., has previously assisted the Legislature by preparing
strategies for updating Oregon's economic policies surrounding
commercial and industrial land development. As part of the
committee, Chase will advise the Department of Land Conservation
and Development regarding state and local economic-development
planning needs. He will also monitor and make recommendations
regarding emerging trends and market opportunities.
Slayden Construction of Stayton, Ore., has promoted Alison
Helms and Sam Rogers
to senior project engineers. Since earning her BS in Construction
Engineering Management from Oregon State University in 2000,
Helms has been involved in Slayden Construction's Newport
Waste Water Treatment Plant, Dixon Recreation Center at OSU
and the Klamath Falls A-Canal Fish Screen projects Helms is
currently assigned to the Pavilion Building at the Oregon
State Fair and preliminary planning for the Fall Creek Hatchery
Research Center. Rogers has been involved in Slayden Construction's
OSU Merritt Truax Indoor Practice Center and Softball Stadium
projects. He is currently closing out the Dixon Recreation
Center project, also at OSU. Rogers earned his BS in Construction
Engineering Management from Oregon State University in 2000.
The Associated Builders and Contractors, Pacific Northwest
Chapter of Tigard, Ore., announced that Jeff
Dean has joined its staff as the new director of government
affairs. Prior to joining ABC, Dean served as a campaign director,
office coordinator and legislative assistant. In his new position,
Dean will be working with ABC members and staff to develop
and advance relationships, policies and activities with state,
local and regional elected officials and regulatory staff.
CDi Engineers of Lynnwood, Wash., announced that Chris
Johnson, senior mechanical designer, has successfully
completed the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation examination,
and is a now LEED accredited professional. Johnson has been
with CDi since 1996. He has served as project manager and
lead mechanical designer for projects that include the U.S.
Port of Entry, Blaine Border Crossing, Blaine, Wash.; Washington
Mutual Leadership Center at Cedarbrook, SeaTac, Wash.; Confluence
Technology Center, Wenatchee, Wash.; and University of Washington
Architecture Hall renovation, Seattle, Wash.
Jeff Bennett, a real estate
attorney and shareholder in the firm of Jordan Schrader PC
of Portland, Ore., has been appointed to the Clackamas County
Economic Development Commission. His appointment on the 25-member
commission will run through December 31, 2006. Established
in late l970s, the CCEDC's mission is to create prosperity
by fostering balanced economic development in Clackamas County
through a close partnership with government and the private
sector. Bennett has joined the CCEDC committee charged with
drafting a new industrial/business park planned unit development
ordinance. Oregon Business Magazine as one of the Top 100
Best Places to Work.
Group Mackenzie, a regional architecture and engineering
firm based in Portland, Ore., recently hired Christopher
Clemow, PE, as a transportation planner with more than
14 years experience in analyzing the transportation needs
of municipalities. Clemow has experience in signal design,
roadway geometric design, intersection design, noise impact
analyses and mitigation measures, roadway design, and work
zone traffic control. His projects include transportation
master planning, traffic impact analyses, and corridor studies.
Clemow has also managed many multidisciplinary projects in
the Oregon cities of Eugene, Springfield, Veneta, and Lebanon.
Express Construction Company of Mercer Island announced
two new additions to its team: Timothy
J. Brennan, a superintendent focusing on commercial
and multi-family projects and Chas
Bross, who will serve as a superintendent for tenant
improvement projects. Brennan has extensive experience as
a superintendent for a range of projects, including high-end
commercial office and retail spaces, the renovation of four
buildings on the piers of the Seattle waterfront and construction
of several Costco warehouse stores. A veteran construction
superintendent specializing in tenant improvement projects,
Bross has led significant renovations of an air traffic management
facility and other high-tech commercial office space, as well
as build-outs of an auto dealership, multiple food service
projects and many additional retail locations.
Seattle-based general contractor Lease Crutcher Lewis has
hired an experienced senior project manager for its Special
Projects Division and promoted two others. David
Rauma is a 16-year construction professional with a
strong background in tenant improvements, renovations, structural/seismic
enhancements, and full mechanical/electrical upgrades. His
experience is strong in hospitality, office tenant improvements,
retail and biomedical/healthcare. Jeff
Spencer has been promoted from senior estimator to
chief estimator in the SPD. For much of his seven-year career
at Lewis, Spencer has led SPD teams in preparation of estimates
and bids. Now he manages the estimating team directly. Marc
Schwartz has been promoted from foreman to superintendent
in the SPD. He is currently building a tenant improvement
for Seattle Genetics.
Sarah Bohlen was recently
transitioned to full-time status as an urban/environmental
planner and John Reyes was hired
as an engineering technician at BERGER/ABAM Engineers Inc.
in Federal Way, Wash. Bohlen was employed part-time for BERGER/ABAM
since May of last year. She has more than 10 years experience
in professional urban planning and policy activities. With
experience in land use planning, public policy, urban design,
and permitting, her focus in recent years has been on integrating
transportation facilities with land use plans and development.
Reyes has five years of experience as a structural CAD designer
and technician. He has extensive experience in the preparation
of structural and civil drawings, such as structural plans
and elevations, connection detailing, fabrication drawings,
and site development plans.
The Columbia Pacific Chapter #54 of the American Society
of Professional Estimators announced that Walt
Lemon of Portland, Ore.'s JE Dunn Construction has
been appointed to serve as the Northwest representative on
the ASPE National Certification Board. Professional evaluation
through Certification is one of the many ways the American
Society of Professional Estimators endeavors to promote the
profession and benefit the construction industry. Through
its certification program, the ASPE recognizes the estimating
proficiency and ethical awareness of the Certified Professional
Estimator.
Dave Siegner, president of
Siegner and Company in Portland, Ore., has been elected to
the executive committee of the Painting and Decorating Contractors
of America. Siegner will serve a one-year term as senior vice
president with PDCA, which represents over 10,000 owners and
top-flight managers from more than 3,400 painting and decorating
firms across the U.S. and Canada. The six-member executive
committee formulates policy and guides the organization toward
accomplishing its mission: to provide quality products, programs,
services and opportunities essential to the success of its
members. Siegner and Company has earned "Contractor of
the Year" honors three times from PDCA's Portland chapter,
and once statewide. In addition, the company has received
numerous recognitions for safety.
Dennis Cope, AIA, JIA has joined
Anshen+Allen as an associate principal in the firm's Seattle
office. He has more than 25 years of professional experience
with health care and senior living projects ranging from stand
alone facilities to full-service continuing care retirement
communities around the country and in Japan. In addition to
expanding the management of the Seattle office, Dennis will
be responsible for increasing Anshen+Allen's presence in the
senior living market.
Seattle civil and structural engineering firm Magnusson Klemencic
Associates recently announced its 2004 promotions. A leader
in MKA's Museum and Library Specialist Group, Derek
Beaman was promoted to senior associate. Ola
Johansson, also promoted to senior associate, is a
key member of MKA's Hospitality and Housing Specialist Group
and deals specifically with structural issues unique to residential
design. Andy Fry, one of MKA's
LEED-accredited professionals, was promoted to associate.
Kerry Galbraith, promoted to
associate, has worked as a structural design engineer on several
prominent Seattle buildings: the new Seattle Central Library,
Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, and the UW William H. Gates School
of Law. Brook Jacksha and Jaime
Sáez, both civil site engineers, have been promoted
to associate. Peter Somers,
a member of both MKA's Building Preservation and Earthquake
specialist groups has been appointed to associate.
WBGS Architecture & Planning of Eugene, Ore., announced
the recent hires of Tyler Runner,
Kevin Sullivan, Maren
Tomblin, Mellany Wittkop
and Shelley West. Runner joined
WBGS as a designer and architect intern and is currently the
mainstay of the project team for the Jordan Plaza project
an office building being designed for the Summer Oaks
PUD in northeast Eugene. Sullivan has been hired by WBGS as
a designer/intern architect and is currently part of the project
team for the Newport Convention Center. Tomblin recently joined
WBGS as a designer/intern architect and has worked on various
projects including some that have been able to utilize her
arts background and her experience with advanced computer
programs. Wittkop comes to WBGS seeking to broaden previous
experience gained with other Eugene based architecture firms
and is currently working on projects located in Medford, Sherwood,
and Eugene. West is the new receptionist at WBGS and previously
worked at Full City Coffee in Eugene.
Portland-based contractor S.D. Deacon has named Glyn
Jones as manager of Deacon Repair and Restoration,
a division dedicated to remediation and repair services for
commercial, public and residential buildings. With more than
17 years in the construction industry and 11 years at Deacon
as its controller, Jones has a broad base of expertise in
construction operations, accounting and project management.
Trent Jeppson will serve as
the first project manager for Deacon Repair and Restoration.
Previously holding both project manager and project engineer
positions with S.D. Deacon's Special Projects Division, Jeppson
brings extensive experience in remediation.
