CITC Instructor Honored by National ABC
Oregon Governor Ted Kulongowski recently appointed Jim
Snodgrass to serve a four-year appointment on the State's
International Trade Commission. Snodgrass, who is vice president
of export sales for Contact Lumber Company of Portland, Ore.,
will serve alongside 14 other Oregon business executives and
two State Senators on the Commission, whose job it is to assist
the International Division of the Oregon Economic and Community
Development Department in planning and developing policy initiatives
related to international trade.
Originally established in 1995, the Commission was expanded
last year by the Oregon State Legislature from nine to 15
appointees. The governor's office is hopeful that the commission's
work will be helpful in stimulating job growth and the state's
economy. Snodgrass was selected because of his own and Contact
Lumber's experience in the international trade arena and to
help fulfill the governor's desire to have representation
from both the natural resources sector and from eastern Oregon
(Contact Lumber's manufacturing facility is located in Prineville,
Ore.).

John S. Koreny recently joined
architectural, engineering and consulting firm HDR in the
company's Bellevue, Wash. location. Koreny's duties at HDR
will be as a senior hydrologist and water resources project
manager.
With more than 13 years of experience as a professional consultant
in ground water and surface water hydrology, Koreny has managed
many surface and ground water hydrology projects. He has experience
with regional and site-specific ground water investigations
for water supply and water rights assessments, environmental
impact studies, ground water control (dewatering) and environmental
contaminant remediation projects.

Kelly Heighton has joined the
sales team at fire alarm and security contractor Pacific Fire
and Security of Seattle. Heighton works primarily with electrical
contractors who require fire alarm and security services for
their commercial and industrial customers.
Heighton brings nearly 10 years of sales experience in the
fire alarm, security system and telecommunications industries,
where he has earned significant recognition for top performance
in sales and customer service and a long history of setting
sales records.

KPFF Consulting Engineers' Portland, Ore., office, a 126-person
structural and civil engineering, and surveying firm, recently
announced new additions to its professional structural engineering
staff: Stephen Whittington,
PE; Josh Richards, PE; Mihkel
Lepson; Bahram Jahangiri; Mark Tobin,
PE; Erik Garrison, PE;
Quoc Nhi Nguyen; Di Huynh; Michael Dutton and Philippe

Portland, Ore., design and engineering firm Otak Inc. recently
added right-of-way accessibility expert Jerry
Markesino to its Public Services Group. Markesino,
a professional engineer and author of several technical publications
and manuals, joins Otak as a senior project manager.
A civil engineer for more than 28 years, Markesino has been
involved in such public projects as the Portland Streetcar
and North Transit Mall Extension in Portland. He has also
written or developed pedestrian design guidelines, an urban
forestry management plan, a final report to the U.S. Access
Board recommending national accessible street-design guidelines,
and the special report recommending planning and design of
accessible features for alterations to public streets in the
public rights-of-way. He is a professional engineer registered
in Oregon.

Group Mackenzie, a regional architecture and engineering
firm recently announced the licensing of Tim
L. Schweitzer as a professional engineer in the State
of Washington.
Schweitzer, who joined Group Mackenzie in 1989, has contributed
to a variety of projects including commercial office space,
warehouse/distribution centers, and high tech facilities.
His recent experience includes the Dollar Tree Regional Distribution
Center, Staples Fulfillment Center, the Round at Beaverton
Station, Clackamas County Public Service Building and Oregon
Transfer.
Schweitzer is also licensed as a professional engineer in
California and a professional structural engineer in Oregon.

Sparling (Seattle) project designer Matthew
Woo recently earned his professional engineering license.
With more than nine years of experience in providing electrical
engineering for commercial, educational, military, industrial,
and marine facilities, Woo has expertise in site lighting,
street lighting and electrical design. Recent projects include
Fisher Pavilion, Cedar Valley Community School and Chase Lake
Elementary School. He is currently working on the Central
Terminal Expansion at SeaTac Airport and several other projects
at Valley Medical Center, McChord Air Force Base and the Bremerton
Naval Station.
Steve Stamm and Frank
van der Harst have joined the staff of CDi Engineers,
a Lynnwood, Wash., mechanical consulting firm.
Stamm brings more than 30 years of experience to his position
of senior mechanical designer. He designs mechanical systems
for healthcare, laboratory, high-technology, commercial, educational,
and industrial projects, and is a member of the American Society
of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers
(ASHRAE).
A certified plumbing engineer, van der Harst has joined CDi's
healthcare group, providing plumbing design services for several
projects at Valley Medical Center in Renton, Wash., and St.
Charles Medical Center in Redmond, Ore.

Charles R. Schrader, a construction
law attorney and shareholder in the Portland, Ore., firm of
Jordan Schrader PC, spoke at the Associated General Contractors
of America (AGC) Labor and Employment Law Council's 20th Annual
Construction Labor Law Symposium in Washington, D.C. Schrader's
presentation focused on employment and labor law problems
created by the rapidly growing use of construction workers
provided by companies whose business is simply to provide
employees on a lease or contract basis.
Schrader has been active in the AGC at both the local and
national levels for more than 25 years. He is a long time
member of a number of AGC national committees, including the
Labor Committee and the Contractor Documents Committee in
which he played a critical role in the creation of the AGC's
standard form subcontracts.

Heidi Turner has joined Lorig
Management Services of Seattle as a residential property manager.
She oversees a portfolio of collegiate properties including
Nordheim Court, Radford Court and The Commodore Duchess at
the University of Washington, and The Wesley at Seattle Pacific
University. She is also responsible for two senior housing
properties - Alaska House and International House.
Turner brings 11 years of senior multifamily, retail and
office property management experience to LMS. She is the current
president of the Western Washington Chapter of IREM.

Bill Karst, Callison's (Seattle)
chief executive officer, has been elected to the College of
Fellows, the highest honor bestowed on its members by the
American Institute of Architects.

Several Lake Washington Technical College students enrolled
in the Kirkland, Wash., school's engineering graphics program
placed in the American Design Drafting Association's national
drafting competition. The students are Eileen
Gallison of Lake Stevens, Wash., Tom
Griffin of Kirkland, Thanh Pham
of Bellevue, and Mary Silva
of Anacortes, Wash., with first place awards; Lynne
Waldher of Edmonds, Wash., with a second place award;
Slava Stevens of Kirkland with

The Seattle office of Skanska USA Building Inc. recently
announced the promotions of Curt Banks
and Tony Stewart to vice-president.
Banks has worked in the construction industry for more than
23 years. At Skanska, he leads a team of specialists delivering
preconstruction services to numerous local and national clients
and design professionals.
Stewart has been in the design and construction industry
for more than 19 years. He is in charge of marketing and business
development at Skanska, and also serves on the company's National
Business Developers advisory board.

Electrical contracting firm Dynalecteric Company of Portland,
Ore., has expanded the business development capabilities of
its recently formed technologies division by naming Elle
Hansen sales and marketing manager of the division.
Hansen has more than 10 years of professional experience
in sales and marketing with expertise in technology and telecommunications
design and consulting.

Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) of Oregon has hired
John Killin as its executive
director. Killin has a varied background in Oregon politics,
and formerly served as legislative aide and campaign manager
for former state representative Max Williams.
Killin replaces former executive director Rick
Thomas, who left to be chief of staff for State Senate
Republican Leader Roger Beyer.
