The $37 million Education Building at the University of Oregon consists of a 65,000 sq ft three story education building atop a 50,000 sq ft below grade parking garage. The new facility houses the University of Oregon’s College of Education and contains classroom and office space.

Lease Crutcher Lewis remodeled four adjacent buildings in phases, added a three block long surface parking lot and built multiple temporary offices and facilities during the project.

The remodels to the original College of Education complex, required the preservation the original design while updating building systems and finishes. In renovated areas, Lewis proposed installing custom made windows that are designed to match the original leaded glass single pane decorative windows, but are also energy efficient. Lewis recommended this option to UO, providing pricing and material suggestions. The result is an aesthetic match with .43 solar heat gain and .53 shading coefficient ratings, providing high performance energy efficiency and occupant comfort.

The Clinical Services Building, a facility for special needs child services, remained completely occupied during construction. While performing significant upgrades to the building, Lewis isolated half of the building at a time, allowing nearly full function of the facility during construction. In order to do this, the team built temporary partition walls dividing the building and separating mechanical, electrical and fire sprinkler systems on one side of the building from the other so system work could occur.

The new HEDCO building is designed for LEED Silver equivalency and incorporates day lighting strategies, green roofs, an on-site storm water retention system and radiant heating and cooling panels.
