commentPortland’s Union Station will no longer need to use buckets to catch rain from a leaky roof when Portland general contractor P&C Construction Co. completes facility improvements in January to one of the oldest major passenger terminals on the west coast and a defining feature of the city’s skyline. The architect is Portland-based Architectural Resources Group.
The $4.3-million project includes repair and replacement of the station’s trademark red roof tiles, which are actually tin. P&C project manager Steve Bartell found the original dies locked in a safe at the Station and sourced local firm Pioneer Sheet Metal to replicate the tiles. The project also includes seismic upgrades to the existing roof and wall structures, repair and replacement of the existing skylights and 280 existing wood windows, refurbishment of the 27 original brass doors, repair of terracotta/sandstone and new paint.
