Weyerhaeuser Closes Three Plants

Federal Way - Weyerhaeuser Co., headquartered in Federal Way, Wash,  is closing  a plywood and a veneer plant in Oregon and building a new sawmill in Washington, the company announced.

The Oregon plants are being closed because of the housing market slowdown and an increase in the availability OSB, says Cathy Slater, vice president of veneer technologies for Weyerhaeuser.

The mills supply materials to the West Coast.

Processes at the new sawmill, planned for Longview, will include lumber, finishing, shipping and related activities.

The company plans to begin construction in January.



Engineering Firms Merge

Portland -  Winzler & Kelly Consulting Engineers announced its merger with Portland-based SJO Consulting Engineers Wednesday. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Winzler, rated as one of the Top 500 Engineering firms in the country by ENR, is moving into the Portland market to take advantage of SJO’s experience in the dairy industry, fish passage and dam design, says Midge Graybeal, SJO marketing manager.  SJO is also involved in other manufacturing processes.

SJO will continue to work on projects throughout the western half of the country and Asia.
