TOTE, Port of Tacoma Cut Ribbon for Terminal
The new Totem Ocean Trailer Express's (TOTE) terminal at
the Port of Tacoma was celebrated during a groundbreaking
July 2.
TOTE has been a Port of Tacoma customer since 1976, helping
the port earn its reputation as America's "Gateway to Alaska."
The ribbon breaking was, in fact, a grand re-dedication
of TOTE's existing facility on the Blair Waterway. The Port
of Tacoma invested $12 million in terminal upgrades to make
the facility more operationally efficient for the line's two
new vessels, the M.V. Midnight Sun and the M.V. North Star,
which are being phased into service this year.
At 840 ft. long and 118 ft. wide, the new TOTE vessels are
50 ft. longer and 13 ft. wider than their existing steamship
fleet. To accommodate this larger size, the Port of Tacoma
restructured and expanded the TOTE Terminal.
The project involved a complete re-organization of the facilities,
including repaving, construction of new buildings and expansion
of storage rows for more efficient cargo movement with 53-ft.
trailers. To further increase the efficiency of operation,
row space was widened and refrigerated plugs now occupy a
dedicated location on the terminal.
Team Upgrading Camas Water System
Team Construction (Vancouver, Wash.) was selected by the
City of Camas to upgrade water supply facilities in the Washougal
Wellfield.
Team completed new construction of a CMU building to house
wells 11 and 12. The new buildings will also house chemical
treatment equipment and a standby generator. Team also installed
a new well assembly in Well 11 and equipped Well 12 with new
control valves, site piping and telemetry systems.
