DBIA's Northwest Chapter Wins Big

Lady Luck bestowed her fortune on several members of the Design Build Association, Northwest Chapter at the DBIA's National Conference in Las Vegas recently.

The chapter as a whole won Excellence in Chapter Programming and a Silver Award in Overall Chapter Services.

Five Northwest Chapter members were awarded DBIA Designations including, Robynne Parkinson, Groff Murphy, William Ecker III of Wade Perrow, Court Olson of Olympic Associates and Paul Snorsky and Jim Leptich, both of Howard S. Wright Construction Company, and Dave Mortenson and Mark Baughman, both of Mortenson.

Majorie Fossum of NAVFAC (Navy, Bremerton) won the Owner's Distinguished Leadership Award

The Cedar Water Treatment Facility near Seattle received the Design-Build Excel- lence Award for Water over $15 million. CH2MHill designed, built and operates this new $109 million, 180-mgd facility.

Better Bricks Announced Winners

Portland - BetterBricks has honored 22 commercial building professionals for their commitment to sustainable, high performance building in Oregon, Washington and the Puget Sound area. Honorees were awarded for their leadership in five categories; Architect, Engineer, Developer, Service Provider/Facility Management Professional and Professional Services.

The BetterBricks Awards give special recognition to individuals who have created buildings that save energy; take an integrated design approach; use sustainable materials; reduce operation and maintenance costs; incorporate daylighting with electrical lighting; consider climate when designing ventilation, heating and cooling systems, and enhance the productivity of occupants.

The Oregon and Southwest Washington winners and finalists are:

Architect Winner: Greg Acker, Architect, City of Portland Office of Sustainable Development, Engineer Winner: Andy Frichtl, PE, Principal, Interface Engineering Inc., Professional Services Winner: Dan Saltzman, Commissioner, City of Portland, Professional Services Finalist: Scott Lewis, Principal, Brightworks, Service Provider: Steve Hatheway, Energy Engineer, Siemens Building Technologies

Puget Sound Area Winners and Finalists:

Architect Winner: Bert Gregory, AIA, President and CEO, Mithun Engineer Winner: Leslie A. Jonsson, PE, Project Manager, CDi Engineers, Professional Services Winner: Tom Paladino, PE, Associate AIA and President, Paladino & Company, Service Provider/ Facility Management Professional: King Tang, Project Director, McKinstry Company, Service Provider/ Facility Management Professional: Scott Rusch, Vice President of Facilities and Operations, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Developer Winner: Ada M. Healey, Vice President, Vulcan Inc., Developer Co-Finalist: Mark Huppert, Principal, Catapult Community Developers, Developer Co-Finalist: Gregory Broderick Smith, CEO and Founder, Urban Visions.
