2005 Best Of Awards
Projects from Medford to Spokane were put to the
test by our independent jury of industry experts.
Separate panels of industry experts from Washington and
Oregon judged our entries for the Northwest Construction Best
of 2005. The criteria was based on technical skill, contribution
to the community, the ability to overcome challenges, safety
and innovation.
As usual it was a difficult process. Special thanks to the
judges, Todd Vacura, President, Ferguson Construc- tion; Heather
Beaulier, Project Manager, Rafn; Jerry Finrow, Professor of
Architecture at the University of Washington, Mike Keezor,
and Clyde Zahn, Project Managers at Gray Purcell, Portland
and Ronald Kernan, Structural Engineer at KPFF in Portland.
All together they examined over 70 entries.
Skanska USA nabbed the most awards this year for its work
on three projects: Lincoln Square, in Bellevue, Wash., Legacy
Salmon Creek Hospital in Vancouver, Wash. and the Hillsboro
Civic Center in Hillsboro, Ore. Judges were most impressed
with the speed of construction on Lincoln Square, after it
was taken over by its third developer. Work on Legacy Salmon
Creek required spending $6 million per month. And, the Hillsboro
Civic Center, changed the entire atmosphere of the city.
In the eyes of Northwest Construction, every company who
entered the competition represents a winning team. If you
have a project that meets the criteria in 2006, be sure to
contact Lucy Bodilly, at lucy_bodilly@mcgraw-hill.com.
See if that project stands up to the outstanding work achieved
in 2005.
