AGC Director Announces Retirement, Acting CEO Named

Seattle —  After 26 years, AGC of Washington chief executive officer Roland Dewhurst announced his retirement effective January 31.  Dewhurst started in November 1980 as the assistant executive director, and then served as the AGC southern district manager in Tacoma for 15 years.  In March 2000 he took the helm as executive vice president.

Dick Bristow, who held the CEO position immediately before Dewhurst, will become acting CEO.

Joint Venture Awarded Transit Project Design

Seattle - An Earth Tech joint venture (JV) has been awarded a $38.9 million contract by the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit) for the final design of the 3.15-mile University Link light rail extension, which will run from downtown Seattle to the University of Washington. The Northlink Transit Partners JV consists of Earth Tech, HNTB, and San Francisco-based consultant Jacobs Associates.  

Earth Tech’s responsibilities will include providing project control systems, managing the design of two rail stations – one in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle and another at the University of Washington at Husky Stadium – and tunnel ventilation, mechanical and electrical systems. The final design project, includes a tunnel that travels under the Lake Washington Ship Canal.

Construction is scheduled to begin in Fall 2008, with service starting in 2016.

McCormick and Schmicks opening new restaurants

BEND —BBT Architects of Bend, Ore., recently completed construction drawings for a new McCormick & Schmick’s Restaurant to be built in Austin, Texas, and is currently in design on a new McCormick & Schmick’s Restaurant in Virginia Beach, Va.

Both restaurants are approximately 7,500 sq ft with fixed and loose seating for 250 guests in the dining and bar areas. The establishments also include private dining rooms, boardrooms and outdoor patio dining for approximately 50 people. 

The restaurants feature detailed wood accents, tile, stained glass, custom light fixtures and specialty finishes.

Midtown Condo Building To be Largest in Seattle

Seattle - ESCALA officially celebrated its ceremonial groundbreaking presentation in mid-February. 

At 820,000 square feet, ESCALA will be Seattle’s largest residential tower.    It is scheduled to open in 2009.  

 Seattle-based LEXAS Companies is the developer of ESCALA.  “We are seeing the Seattle skyline change right before our eyes.  

ESCALA will offer 270 condominiums private or semi-private elevator foyers. The residences will be atop a 25,000-square-foot private club with a full-service gym and spa; a bar and lounge; a theater; a wine cave with storage and other amenities.

Noted architect Paul Thoryk of San Diego-based Thoryk Architecture designed ESCALA.  MulvannyG2 Architecture collaborated with Thoryk Architecture, and is the architect of record.
